Audience Research

1(a) Audiences
//
A target audience is a group of people at which a product is hoping to attract the attention of,  One advantage of target marketing is the ability to offer the right products to the right customers. A product manager who properly targets her customers knows their age range. She focuses on products that meet their needs, solve their problems or help them in one way or another. a niche audience is a market subgroup that has distinguishable interests that may not appeal to the wider community. Products produced for this type of audience would be specialized and consist of features that would appeal to only that /examples/ etc. Mass audiences, According to Businessdictionary.com, are an Un-segmented market in which products with mass appeal are marketed to a wide range of individuals, including people of different ages, ethnicity, interests, and backgrounds. products are offered to every customer through mass retailers or independent stores and promoted through mass media.

an example of a film that was made for a mass audience is Avengers: Endgame which was only rated at PG-13, it also appealed to many comic book fans, and Marvel enthusiasts this shows as it came 2nd in the highest grossing movies of all time making 2.6 billion dollars only beaten by avatar which had made 2.7 billion dollars. this movies anticipation was brewing back in 2018 when the trailers were released, and since then social media help build its reputation and advertising. A Niche market movie would be Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale as this movie would have only appealed to anime fans which are a minority group. Within social media, this movie did not get that much attention like Avengers did. not much was said about it only those who were interested in it would have found out about it many people don't even know that it exists.

The Oldest Generation is the Depression Era Generation also known as the greatest generation. People of this Era were born in the years 1912-1921 and have a current population of  11-12 million but are rapidly decreasing. This generation tends to avoid change and stick to traditions. They are not quick to spend money and would rather spend money on things that aren't too much of a risk(CDs rather than the stock market which can be unpredictable), helping them keep a low debt. This generation feels a responsibility to leave a legacy for their children and are patriotic. They are hard workers preferring to complete tasks before leisure activities.

//
The World War II generation was born in the years 1922-1927 and have a current population of 11 million but are quickly declining. this generation had a sense of deferment meaning that they prefer to delay or put things off to a later time and they have no problem with waiting for what they want. this contrasts the Gen X cohorts as they have a "microwave" mentality and want things in the quickest time possible.

//
Post War generation was born between 1928-1945 and have a current population of 41 million but are on a steady decline. this generation benefitted from a post-war economic boom that struck in America but at the same time suffered from the tensions of the Cold War and possible nuclear fallout. These events have caused this generation to value security and safety whether that is as in jobs or personal security. and security within families. They tend to avoid unfamiliar circumstances and activities.

//
Baby Boomers (Boomers I) were born 1946-1954 and have a current population of 33 million. many major events mark the first generation of the boomers. John F Kennedy's and Martin Luther King's assassinations, the Civil Rights movement and Vietnam war. Most baby boomers were in the war or protested it. the first boomers had good economic opportunities, especially after the war. they were optimistic about the future of the World.

//
Generation X was from 1964-1982 there is currently a population of 49 million. this generation was born in a period when divorce rates were extremely high. This generation was the creator of the indie film movement and most the audience of these movies were Gen Xers. Media called this the slackers' generation because of their aimless apathetic approach to life, they were said to be reluctant to grow up.

Generation Y(Millenials) are the largest cohort and populate most of the world they are known as the selfish generation most of them tend to have a self-centered approach to life and prefer the more solo life than social.they were born from 1980-2000 and consume 18 plus hours of media per week.

Generation Z is the youngest generation born in the years mid-1990- early 2000s and has the least written about them and the least studied about them. they are however known to be totally absorbed by technology and whilst some use it for good other it has become an addiction which marketers use to sell more products. this generation spends the most time on devices with 20+ hours a week o their phones or other devices.

Generation's X, Y, and Z had the biggest technological advancements out of all the other generations and so they had a lot more exposure to multiple forms of media. for the older generation that was more traditional, this new technology was not appealing and so the oldest generation most likely would have preferred to stick with their traditional means of entertainment and media intake. however other generation would have been excited to try out the new systems, the post-war generation would appreciate things like CDs which they could keep their own music on as this would appeal to their sense of security as they don't appreciate or depreciate in value over time and can be enjoyed for a long time. Gen Xers would have made the most of the new technological advancements of their age in both music and film as seen with the increase in popularity of indie film companies and a large fan base for the genre, whilst other generations enjoyed more traditional films. Gen X led the way to a new style of music, punk, and this was a big hit at its time and appealed a lotto the apathetic youth of its age. Gen Y was even more technologically advanced with the introduction of flat-screen TVs and smartphones these both made an impact because it meant that most people could have cinema viewing experience, or similar to it, right in their home. Smartphones replaced most flip phones as the touch screen movement went global and everyone was using a touch screen phone or device.it became easier for media to be targeted at this generation because they could carry advertising with them where ever they went. Gen Z is possibly the easiest group o market to as they have grown not knowing much about the previous technology systems rather hearing about them like myths and legends. This generation is absolutely absorbed in their devices and this makes it easy for companies to advertise their products because they can put their media on social platforms where anyone who may or may not be interested can stumble upon it.

given all that I've learned about the generation, I would target the newer generations such as Gen X and onwards as these generations would be more open to trying something new this is not a mass market as we would only target mainly teenagers and older and those that would enjoy high tension type movies. the quickest way for us to market our product would be to post it on social media platforms where anyone who is interested can come across. Youtube, for example, would analyze what someone watches and suggests videos that are similar to what that individual watches. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, all track what their users view and bring similar content closer o them and so those that enjoy movies and movie making would be sent our product. social media is so massive that there is bound to many people that will come across our product and this would give us a little recognition. Film events and expos can be costly but will help the right people get instant access to our product and we won't have to hope that they will stumble upon it accidentally. Here there are also other aspiring filmmakers who will also be trying to show off their product so competition would be very high. there is also the option of the word of mouth. this can be used within our church community as there is a very supportive base here. the more people that speak about the product the more people that will hear about the product

    Well done, Gilmark (insert fireworks here)! You are back on track to producing your best work. You have obviously taken time to research and gain an understanding of who the different types of audiences are, who the generation demographics are and have provided some really insightful thoughts into how you would strategically market to the demographics that your film is targeted to.

    As you continue in your research, keep going in-depth with facts and ideas, try not to use generalisations but back up what you're saying with facts/ statements and quotes. This will be helpful practise for exams.
