Logo Research

LucasFilms.

//
Lucas film was created by a filmmaker called  George Lucas in 1971.
this company produced all the star wars franchise films and many other films. it is now currently owned by Disney. who bought it in 2012.

Lucasfilm first logo was a simple green bold text on top of a black background.this is because the technology that was available back then was very minimal and so many companies had very simple logos. the opening sequence of a film wasn't as important to people as the actual film and so most producers made it short for people so that they wouldn't get bored. The logo Then upgraded and became green lettering in a skinny font on a black background.

The Green Lettering on a black background symbolises the New life and beginnings of the company that was a merger of multiple film companies. the bold lettering was used so that it would be easily visible by the audience who sat a good distance from the screen at the time.

The Green Lettering on a black background symbolises the New life and beginnings of the company that was a merger of multiple film companies. the bold lettering was used so that it would be easily visible by the audience who sat a good distance from the screen at the time.

The logo was then changed to...
//
this font became the frame for all of Lucasfilms logos. The font of this logo is commanding and makes it easily distinguishable from any other logo as the letters are clear they added sparkles to this logo to symbolises that this brand is special and precious.The logo changed one more time before they settled on their current logo the yellow gives a feeling of warmth and brightness this. this was only used for a while. The colour gold gives it a sense worth because gold is expensive subconsciously making the audience think that Lucasfilm is a High-quality production studio.

20th Century Fox.

//
Fox was founded in 1915 and has been running since. their first logo was just their name in white lettering on top of a black background. Later on, Emil Kosa jr painted the first design idea of bold 3D lettering with spotlight shinning around it. the bold lettering gives the logo a feeling of strength and solidity. this was coupled with the sue if a bright gold like colour which gives a sense of richness to the logo.
this made the company appear more professional and  of a higher quality. More and more details were added with new artists and all of them used different backgrounds and slightly different layouts. But one that that they Kept the same where the spotlights.

spotlights are used to show or focus on something that is important, the spotlights in the logo are used similarly and highlight that the company is something relevant and important. they also draw attention to the logo as they wave all over the screen. Fanfare, or the trumpets and drums that play in the background, are similar to those that introduce a kings arrival. so these are suggesting that Fox is a Kingly brand and that it has high standards.
when the logo became animated to move and the lettering was done with CGI the placement of the camera above the logo also draws our attention towards it. There is a point when the logo is completely covered by a spotlight in the foreground this causes the audience to refocus their view multiple times meaning that the image of the logo becomes ingrained into the viewer's heads.

Legendary Entertainment.

//
Legendary Entertainment was founded in 2000 by Thomas Tull. the logo is based on a Celtic shield knot. To the ancient Celts, it was a sign of power and strength and was believed to protect anyone who wore it. Legendary Entertainment use this symbol as a symbol of power and strength, the symbol is usually complex and hard to grasp but Legendary has made it so that it does not confuse the audience but still conveys that power and strength. The logo is a silvery blue this gives it shine to it that resembles a precious metal. this suggests that Legendary's productions are like a precious metal, highly sought after and worth a lot. The intricate patterns on the logo give a sense that the company  is very sophisticated  and produces  complicated products for an audience that can appreciate the material.

Disney

The Walt Disney Company started in 1923 in the rear of a small office occupied by Holly-Vermont Realty in Los Angeles.

representation essay 2

In this american crime drama there is a contrast in eastern and western cultures, portraying the Eastern culture in a negative light. We are shown that the West is civilized, sophisticated, and clean whilst the East is portrayed as being corrupt, poor, and filthy. Women within each culture are also contrasted showing that women in Western cultures are dominant commanding and driven opposed to Eastern women who are oppressed and concealed.

The eastern culture is represented as being poor and dirty. this is shown through the dirty clothing that the children on the streets are wearing. the streets are also packed with people and cars. so many people walk onto the streets casually, showing that they are uncultured. the cars are so many that the main character has to get out of her car and walk to her destination. this directly contrast with how america is portrayed as the people in the background of the phone call are all wearing suites ties and dresses showing that they are clean and well mannered the room was organised and people were calm this contrasting the busy streets of Baghdad. this follows the general stereo types of Muslims that they tend to be villainous out of the 1% percent of the Arab people that act in film and they are generally depicted as the antagonist Muslims culture is being shown as almost animal-istic as we are shown the scene with the gallows. this shows that they are dangerous as the gallows symbolize death and rather than just imprisoning the culprit they result to killing him which shows that they are ruthless this is also portrayed in the way the guards treat the main character she has to yell at the guard in their own language to get him to back off.However, the man in prison is shown to be more affectionate towards his family and is willing to do anything to make sure that they are safe this again contrasts the stereotype of the Arabic people. Low camera angles are used to portray the Arabic people as being less than the westerners when we are shown the people on the street we are looking down on themthis opposed how the US are portrayed as being equal with us as we see them at eye level. The camera shots of Baghdad are crowded and confined showing that people there are restricted in their options this also links to how the person in prison has no options but to trust the lady

women in eastern culture are represented as portrayed as oppressed and restricted. this shown by the way that they dress in the head gear that covers most of their head. women in eastern culture are subordinate to men and so they are shown to be less important and weaker. however women in eastern culture women have been gaining more and more traction in terms of independence and freedom of speech this is shown by the fact that nowadays feminism is a very popular belief and this is shown in the clip by the way that the main characters interaction with her chief. she is very determined and wont allow anything to stop she "doesn't care" that its impossible. this directly contrasts the depiction of eastern women and shows that western women are better than the eastern women Western women are shown to be resilient as we that the main character doesn’t take no for answer and so she takes her own path and bribes her way in. this Is completely different to how women in Baghdad are portrayed. They are shown to be reserved and quiet keeping to themselves. In a short moment we see a lady wearing head gear symbolizing her concealment as being shy and oppressed, near some boys. The boys are being rowdy and loud but she just lets them keep going and she seems standoff-ish. Nearing the end of the clip many jump cuts are used to show how rough the guards are being to the main character lady this shows how uncivilized they are and how much they degrade and disrespect women.

The sound on the streets is loud and bustling showing that the eastern culture is untamed and all over the place, this contrasts with how the western society is viewed as the sound in the phone scenes is very calm and elegant pointing towards their civilization and development. The sounding of the Muslim call to prayer is an indicator that this part of the country is religious. Religion can be closely linked with restrictions and rules this is portrayed as a bad thing and showing that the west doesn’t have such things would mean that the west is better than the east.
The camera movement during the scenes in Baghdad are fast pans and quick jolting tilts these types of shots give the feeling of unstable this reflecting to the unstable state of the country as many are in poverty. This can also link to the corruption we see in that the guard to the prison is easily bribed to let the main character into the jail to speak with the criminal. However, in the phone scene when the lady speaks to her boss/co-worker the camera shots are gently moving tracking shots that slowing zoom out to show the audience the room. During this scene the contrast is further emphasized through quick jump cuts between each setting, at one moment it’s a calm room with gentle lovely music the next it’s the busy hectic streets of Baghdad. This subconsciously puts the Americans above those in Baghdad because they are wearing rough clothes while the Americans wear suit and ties.

The echo that lingers at the end of the clip of the man shouting about “saving his family” this is put alone because it is an exclusion to the norm as we are shown a man who is more compassionate than what we have already been shown this shows that they are still human and have emotions like the rest of us. The echo helps the words to linger in the audience’s brain making them feel sympathy towards the guy who is about to be killed and his family may also be killed. Streets of Baghdad are the typical portrayal of middle eastern countries as desert wastelands with not much to offer other than dirt and dust.

Creative Critical Reflection: Question 2

our product engages  the audience by using a heavy contrast of two lives. in one life the main character is happy and seems to be content with what he is doing. However in the "bad life" he is noticeably more drowsy and apathetic shown by the way he drags his feet across the floor and the fact that the his house is a complete mess. this intends to show what the life off an assassin would be more like and how joyless it would really be. The contrast is very exaggerated by the music played in the background which should convey that his life is now completely different. as the joyful music in the "good life" is contrasted with low droning sounds and slow piano. which also evokes a feeling of being tired and lazy. The camera shots in the beginning are more spacious and bright to show his internal state. he is happy and content with his life. but in the other life the camera is shaky and the lighting is dark and cold to show that he has become a cold person. this would contrast the audiences opinion of assassins as people who live hard but luxurious lives as seen in movies like John Wick but this shows that the life of an Assassin is not as cool as it is portrayed.

our product would be distributed on social media putting it up on I Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and, Pintrest. this would allow people who are interested in short films and film making in general will have easy access to our product. Instagram allows the use of hashtags, which means it will group posts together with the same hashtags. this allows for our product to placed among other similar content, the more hashtags you use means the more people will see it. Posting it on your account will allow all your followers to see it on their feed, this is where having a large follower base will come in handy as the more followers you have the more will see your product. some large accounts offer paid advertising on their accounts. here advertising is not as expensive as some advertising like national news paper cost which is approx. $7 for three lines and $2.78 for every line after that and if you want pictures its around another $7 for colored and $5 for monochromatic. Instagram adds , however, cost only $5 dollars for every 24 hours that you want it up. these accounts can have more that 500 thousand  followers meaning that an average of about 250 thousand and more will have a chance of seeing the post. So technically for $20 we could pay two big accounts to advertise our short film for two days, meaning that over 500 thousand people will be exposed to our short film. if they like it the will most likely share it with their friends and this would mean that it would spread even more. Social media is more popular than newspaper nowadays and so this kinda of advertising is much more efficient and produces more results as more people spend time on social media than on the newspaper.

Film festival are a good way to show off our product to an audience that would appreciate what we did and also have insight on how we can make it better. NZIFF is the New Zealand International film festival this is being help from April to August this year and anyone can enter their short films or feature length films, provided they meet the requirements which are that you cannot submit a film that is already been submitted before and it cannot be already be in circulation  it must be the first time it is publicly shown to an audience. This allows more recognition by industry professionals who can help invest in upcoming film makers by helping to advertise their products. Meeting people in the industry will also allow you to receive constructive criticism from people who are more experienced than us.

YouTube is a another good platform to use however it requires an already strong subscriber base. We could ask for support within our church community, meaning that our film will be advertised through word of mouth helping also to build a strong follower basis. having a good following on YouTube will place our video on people's recommended lists which will significantly boost views and recognition.
